Come to Scotland

Facts and Figures on the Scottish Economy
Since 1998, Scotland has been operating under its own Parliament, devolved from Westminster. Led by Jack McConnell, First Minister, under a coalition agreement between the political parties Labour and the Liberal Democrats, the Scottish Parliament is situated in Edinburgh, Scotland's capital city. A devolved Scottish parliament has facilitated a greater degree of control over our own legislation and destiny.

Legislation passed at the Scottish Parliament is implemented by the Scottish Executive and includes areas such as enterprise, housing, schools, environment and Europe. Scottish Enterprise is Scotland's economic development agency, with responsibility for the development of indigenous companies, attraction and maintenance of inward investment as well as the continued development of an industry relevant workforce and skills pipeline in Scotland.

Scottish Enterprise reports directly to the Scottish Executive. The Alba Centre is a Scottish Enterprise initiative with a focus on developing Scotland as a leading location for electronic design. Scotland has strengths across a wide range of industries, from traditional expertise in textiles, food and drink (updated, of course, to take advantage of the latest innovations) through to leading edge optoelectronics, microelectronics, telecommunications and biotechnology.

Scotland has a vibrant knowledge-based economy, which in recent years has significantly grown its electronics, finance and service industry sectors. Not to mention our tourism, energy, forestry and agriculture… Scotland has always been and continues to be a great place to do business!
