Virtual Component Exchange
Today's electronic products are faster, more powerful
and intricate than ever before. Yet they have design cycles and shelf
lives measured in mere months. The use of virtual components (VCs) is
the key to the design of tomorrow's products.

To speed up the design process - and to remain competitive
in the global market place -engineers are turning to intellectual property,
also known as virtual components (VCs). VCs are pre-designed blocks that
can be 'plugged' into a complete system-on-chip design. This enables system
companies to realise ever more complex electronic systems. and can speed
the actual design phase.
However, this new paradigm presents a new and challenging business transaction
process for both providers and users of VCs.
Sourcing suitable external 3rd party intellectual property and tackling
the huge legal and business issues, has now become a priority. The Virtual
Component Exchange concentrates on the business and legal issues involved
with system-on-chip designs, with the ultimate goal being the creation
of an efficient, international and open market infrastructure.
