The Institute for System Level Integration

The Institute is delivering the world's first MSc in System Level Integration concentrating on the understanding of the process of system-on-chip design, the use of intellectual property (IP) blocks abd the architecture of modern electronic systems. The Institute is a joint venture of the universities of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Heriott-Watt, Strathclyde and Scottish Enterprise.

The Institute combines the research and teaching strengths of the seven University Departments of Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computing Science and Informatics.

It is a world-class environment, designed to offer the ultimate in facilities for training, education and in-company corporate events and conferences.

Test Education
Test engineering is assuming an increasingly important role in the successful exploitation of new semiconductor/system-on-chip/mixed signal/microelectronic technologies. Developments in new technologies, in particular mobile telecomms and wireless products, are leading to revolutionary product concepts and market opportunities. Companies are expanding their design and test functions and embracing a 'Design for Test' philosophy, using leading-edge semiconductor test methods to verify that complex designs can be executed right first time. Engineering Doctorate Programme
The Institute's Engineering Doctorate Programme is approved by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council. [More]

Outstanding Resource
The Institute's resources for study are outstanding. It provides access to the latest pre-release system-on-chip design tools, state of the art fabrication and dedicated information systems, offering students opportunities to advance their learning and research in an exceptional academic environment.

Studentships
Funded Full-Time Postgraduate Opportunities. Excellent funding is available for well-qualified candidates. A number of industrial sponsorships are available each year for well-qualified MSc students. Student Awards Agency for Scotland awards are also available to eligible students for the diploma programme.

The EngD programme is supported by EPSRC, who pay a greatly enhanced stipend to the student; tuition fees are also paid on the student's behalf to the EngD centre. In addition, the student receives a living allowance from his/her industrial sponsor.
