A Parameterisable PLA Architecture for System-on-Chip DSP Applications
12 March 2001
There is a continuous demand for efficient, highly programmable, high performance devices to be embedded in to today’s System-On-Chip Architectures. Such devices provide flexibility, as well as high performance added to the need for fast time to market.
We present an environment for the design of Programmable logic structures which are specially tailored for high throughput DSP applications. The architectures can vary in terms of their core logic elements as well as their global routing strategy depending on design specifications.
The designs are produced by a stochastic process which is able to explore design parameters and architectures effectively. In many cases multiple design solutions are produced, all meeting design specifications but providing different performance trade-offs. Application areas for such a toll include image processing and audio filtering.
