Wolfson Microelectronics' founder, David Milne, has been presented with the award for innovation in a company to spin-out of Edinburgh University, at a recent event organised by the university's Technopole science park.

Following the award ceremony David commented, "At Wolfson we actively encourage quality and innovation in engineering and to build on that we have been working closely with the University through sponsorship of MEng microelectronics courses." He continued, "This award is a great recognition of the work we have been doing and I am honoured to receive it on behalf of the company."

The event held at the Palace of Holyroodhouse and attended by the Duke of Edinburgh, celebrated scientists who have left the academic field of research and development in favour of the world of commerce, and turned their discoveries into successful businesses.

Also honoured at the event were, Professor Sir Kenneth Murray, who developed the first vaccine against hepatitis B and Peter Denyer, the founder of Vision Group, which spun out of Edinburgh University in 1990 and was the first Scottish university spin-out to reach floatation.
