The Institute for System Level Integration announced today (2 October) that it has more than trebled its student numbers, as it welcomed 74 new Masters (MSc) and Engineering Doctorate (EngD) postgraduates onto the Alba Campus at Livingston.

Students have come from a wide variety of countries including Greece, India, Malaysia, China, Finland, Denmark and of course the UK including Scotland. Overall, 60% come from overseas, 19% from EU countries and 21% are UK based with the majority graduating from Scottish universities including Glasgow, Heriot-Watt, Edinburgh, Strathclyde, and Napier.

“This is an extremely exciting time for us,” commented Avril Manners, MSc Course Director. “The fact that so many students have come across the world to study at ISLI shows the level of recognition that our MSc and EngD qualifications have. The addition this year of the online masters programme means that many more students who perhaps can’t attend courses in person, can still access our SLI and SoC expertise.

“System Level Integration and System on Chip skills are widely in demand throughout the electronic design industry. ISLI offers companies and individuals a way to develop these skills as part of a dedicated training programme. Over the past three years our MSc graduates have been employed in some of the world’s leading companies – proof indeed that the qualifications we offer are tailored to the needs of companies involved in electronic design. We have also played a strong part in the growth of the Scottish electronic design industry.”

Students who wish to enrol on the MSc courses normally come from a background in electronic engineering and typically have first degrees in Electronics, Computing Science or Physics. There is one intake per year for the full time masters and companies can also sponsor their engineers to study part time for an MSc qualification.
