Test Advantage’s European Test Technology Centre Opens
02 May 2001
Livingston, Scotland - May 2, 2001- Test Advantage, a global test services company, announced today that it's UK subsidiary, Test Advantage Limited, has formally opened its European Test Technology Centre at the Alba Centre in Livingston, Scotland.
The Test Technology Centre positions Test Advantage Limited to support both commercial and educational endeavors. Commercial activities include semiconductor test-related pre-production services such as test program development, design debug, device characterization and prototype testing. In addition to these services, the Test Technology Centre will provide European semiconductor companies with a unique venue for access to chip test technology and expertise.
Gordon Langlands, Technical Director of Test Advantage Limited said, “The Test Technology Centre has a capacity for multiple test platforms, and will eventually house several semiconductor test systems. We were pleased to announce the arrival of our first tester, a Teradyne Catalyst, in March 2001.” Langlands continued, “We plan to expand our installed base with other testers and add resources to deliver value-added test services to meet our customers' growing needs.”
In addition to its commercial activities, the Test Advantage European Test Technology Centre will support the chip test technology education programs of the Institute for System Level Integration (ISLI) at the Alba Centre with a “hands-on” lab. ISLI offers both continuing professional development programs and post-graduate level courses in state-of-the-art System on a Chip (SOC) test technology. The first ISLI labs in the Test Technology Centre will begin in June 2001.
Formed in 2000 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Test Advantage Holdings, LLC, Test Advantage Limited has grown quickly and now has a local staff of eleven, including 5 senior-level test consultants, each averaging 15+ years of experience in the field of semiconductor test technology. Since opening, Test Advantage Limited has provided test development and consulting services to many international device manufacturers both directly and as a partner to test hardware OEMs.
“The outsourcing of test development is becoming even more important, not only for fabless chip companies, but also for leading IDMs. Test technology expertise is as valuable as the test hardware itself when it comes to getting new products to market on schedule and to budget,” commented Ron Leckie, an External Director of Test Advantage Limited and 30-year semiconductor industry veteran.
Capri DeModica, Chief Operating Officer of Test Advantage commented, “Our vision is to provide a resource of unparalleled value to European semiconductor companies for test expertise and pre-production test services. With our highly experienced team, our history of bringing test solutions to the global test marketplace, and now the resources of Test Advantage’s European Test Technology Centre, we are excited to proceed toward the realization of this vision.”
Neil Francis, Director of the Alba Centre said: “We would like to congratulate Test Advantage on the opening of the new Test Technology Centre at Alba. This will be an invaluable resource for the Institute for System Level Integration and for companies throughout Europe.”
